"I had the pleasure during the earliest stages of my career to begin working closely with a number of Ontario's most prestigious independent schools. This was an informative experience, as it was clear that the supports each organization could provide were unique and, just as importantly, the students we were working with were often distinct from those we were engaging with at the public and separate school boards.
It was readily apparent that providing templated assessments and reports was not the best way to service this population. While some of the traditional technology supports used in the public sector were not available in these institutions, other technology resources were available and often integrated much more cleanly into the academic process. Our independent school students also tended to have far greater access to additional learning strategy supports. This meant that further guidance on how to leverage a student's strengths could be tremendously helpful in fostering a more individualized way to learn.
We also recognized that the student population we both serve is often a bright and talented one, but that being "smart" does not mean they do not have unique learning needs. Emotional concerns, such as student anxiety and perfectionism, were also far more common and often required support following the assessment process.
It was my goal, with the launch of FLEX Psychology to rethink an assessment process and to develop a support team focused on the needs of the unique schools and students we serve. I am excited by what we have developed and look forward to working closely with Ontario's independent schools to influence the next generation of professionals, academics, and leaders." - Michael Decaire, M.A., C.Psych., RP

How FLEX Supports Your School
Approaching assessments and interventions in a vacuum that fails to consider school needs does a disservice to your organization and our shared students. FLEX strives to provide assessments, reports, and intervention supports that integrate well with your systems and meet student needs in an efficacious and practical manner. To help our students move forward FLEX will:
Meet with your organization to understand the sort of information you find valuable in an assessment, recognize and consider your academic/curriculum approach, and recognize what resources are available to foster student success
Attend post-assessment team meetings to help staff understand student needs and assist in intervention planning at no cost to you or your students
Provide annual workshops to your organization and/or families on common learning and emotional concerns impacting your students
When requested and practical, provide on site assessments to students who are unable to travel to our locations (e.g. downtown Toronto schools; boarding students)
